Catholic Medical Association’s 10th Annual Medical Student & Resident Boot Camp Underway in Florida

Ave Maria, FL – June 13, 2022 – Catholic Medical Association’s 10th annual Medical Student and Resident Boot Camp has officially commenced at Ave Maria University in Florida.

“This is an incredible accomplishment for Catholic Medical Association. For the last ten years, Boot Camp has been an invaluable program for medical students and residents, who take what they learn and apply it throughout their vocation as Catholic physicians,” said Craig Treptow, M.D., CMA President.

CMA’s mission is to form and support current and future physicians to live and promote the principles of the Catholic Faith in the science and practice of medicine.

Boot Camp is one way CMA successfully realizes its mission, by providing an opportunity for medical students and residents to learn about Catholic medical ethics and grow in their faith.

“The foundational mission of the Medical Student and Resident Boot Camp is to assist, encourage and support the students in embracing their vocational calling to become authentic and faithful Catholic physicians,” said Frank McNesby, M.D., Chair of CMA’s Medical Student and Resident Boot Camp Subcommittee.

“The Boot Camp is a Catholic formation project; we are encountering the students at the beginning of their journey. We endeavor to assist them in discovering the truth and beauty of Catholic teachings and in understanding the profound implications of caring for the human person,” added Dr. McNesby.

Since its inception ten years ago, 460 medical students and residents have completed CMA’s Boot Camp. The event has called three locations home, beginning at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Philadelphia, then University of St. Mary of the Lake in Mundelein, Illinois, and this year at Ave Maria University in Florida.

Each year, the interaction between students and CMA physician mentors grows stronger and informs the event’s expanding curriculum. CMA hopes to take the Boot Camp to more locations across the country, increasing accessibility to as many medical students and residents as possible.

Thank you to all of the physicians, medicals students, residents and staff who have served on the Committee over the years to positively impact so many medical students and the future of Catholic health care.
