CMA Issues Statement on Latest HHS Compromise

Bala Cynwyd, PA—On February 1, 2013, the Obama administration announced a proposal to modify its definition of “religious employer” to ostensibly exempt some organizations from the HHS mandate.  In response, the Catholic Medical association issued the following statement:

The Catholic Medical Association (CMA) will study these proposed HHS regulations carefully and provide a more detailed statement later.

It is worth noting that this is the fourth proposed revision of the Obama administration’s policy on the HHS mandate since Secretary Sebelius released Interim Final Rules on August 11, 2011. But no policy revisions will suffice unless and until they ensure that all Americans, not just those in religious organizations recognized by this Administration, are guaranteed freedom of conscience in their daily lives and work. It is time for the Obama administration to obey and uphold the Constitution and cease trying to parse who is qualified to enjoy religious freedom.

The CMA looks forward to a full and complete restoration of the rights of conscience and religious freedom that have been undermined by the policies of the Obama administration.

Founded in 1932, the Catholic Medical Association is the largest association of Catholic physicians in North America. For more information, go to http://www.cathmed.org.
