CMA’s Dr. Lester Ruppersberger and Wife Honored by Pope Francis

Philadelphia, PA—The Catholic Medical Association congratulates Dr. Lester Ruppersberger and his wife, Betty, who have been honored by Pope Francis for their service to the church.

Dr. Ruppersberger, a longtime member and past president of CMA, along with his wife, are two of 40 Catholics from the Philadelphia Archdiocese to be recognized by Pope Francis.

“We are proud and grateful that Pope Francis has recognized the inspirational work of Dr. Ruppersberger. Dr. Ruppersberger’s work as a physician and as a Catholic has impacted the lives of many and we are blessed to have him as a member of Catholic Medical Association,” said Dr. John Schirger, President of CMA.

Now retired, Dr. Ruppersberger enjoyed a successful career as an OBGYN in the Philadelphia region. Throughout the years, Dr. Ruppersberger and Betty taught Natural Family Planning and donated time and resources to several deserving efforts in the area.

“Betty and I are truly humbled and feel blessed that we are being given this surprise honor. We never thought that when we said ‘yes’ to His call that honors would be associated. We are very grateful to all that have assisted us and facilitated us in the ministries associated with this recognition. Thanks especially to Our Lady to whom we have prayed throughout for our efforts,” said Dr. Ruppersberger.

Archbishop Charles Chaput will confer the honors next month at a ceremony that will take place at the Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul in Philadelphia.
