Catholic Medical Association Members in Colorado Take Action Against Radical Abortion Bill ‘Reproductive Health Equity Act’

March 16, 2022- Members of Catholic Medical Association living in Colorado are taking action against the Reproductive Health Equity Act, which if passed, would be the most radical abortion bill the state has ever seen.

“The last two years of the COVID-19 pandemic have shown societies across the world to recognize the importance of life and respect the dignity in each of us,” said Michelle Stanford, M.D., CMA Vice President and State Director (Colorado).

Dr. Stanford went to on to say, “This legislation is a direct attack on life and a threat to women and their unborn children.”

In summary, the Reproductive Health Equity Act states “…every individual has a fundamental right to use or refuse contraception; every pregnant individual has a fundamental right to continue the pregnancy and give birth or to have an abortion; and a fertilized egg, embryo, or fetus does not have independent or derivative rights under the laws of the state.”

The bill was passed in the Colorado House of Representatives earlier this month and will now move onto the state’s Senate.

On March 12, Colorado members of CMA joined a rally at the Colorado State Capitol in opposition of the bill.

CMA encourages all members in Colorado to take continued action against this bill by contacting your local lawmakers and expressing opposition.

CMA remains committed to advocating for the right life, locally and nationally. Earlier this month CMA endorsed the Ultrasound Informed Consent Actintroduced in the U.S. Senate, and remains an active voice as Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health continues to play out in the Supreme Court.
