CMA Posts Comments on HHS’s Latest Compromise

Bala Cynwyd, PA—The Catholic Medical Association (CMA) submitted its formal comments on the latest proposal from the Obama administration to deal with issues of religious freedom as the departments of HHS, the IRS, and the Treasury prepare to enforce the mandate on employers and health insurers to provide abortifacient, contraceptive, and sterilization services to all women as a pre-paid entitlement.

The CMA’s comment focused on two elements of HHS’s proposal—to change the definition of “religious employer” and to provide a mechanism to “accommodate” faith-based institutions (such as Catholic educational institutions, hospitals, and social service agencies) which are not being recognized as “religious employers” and not being granted a full exemption from the mandate.

Founded in 1932, the Catholic Medical Association is the largest association of Catholic physicians in North America. For more information, go to http://www.cathmed.org.
